Masters student Mevazara shares her University of Brighton experience
We caught up with Madagascan student, Mevazara Rakotoson Fety, on her experience of studying a postgraduate degree in our School of Business and Law.
Mevazara is currently studying for her Masters in Business Administration (MBA). She is hoping to pursue a career within the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector, and talked to us about her motivations for progressing her studies and why she chose Brighton.
Studying for her undergraduate degree in Madagascar
Mevazara started her higher education journey in her home country of Madagascar: “I did two different undergraduate studies.
“The first one was on rural equipment and the second was on marketing and sales through the online management studies offered by the University of Montpellier.”
Outside of her studies, Mevazara has been working in development aid.
“Between the two bachelors degrees, I have been working for non-governmental organisations and social enterprises to contribute to WASH access improvement for Madagascan and African people in communities, schools and healthcare facilities.”
Choosing Brighton for her postgraduate study
Mevazara shares why she chose to progress her education in the UK at Brighton’s School of Business and Law, and how the Chevening scholarship aided her decision.
“In my ambition to upgrade my leadership skills and business knowledge to an international level, the Chevening scholarship was an opportunity for me to acquire world-class knowledge in the UK.
“I wanted to study at the University of Brighton’s School of Business and Law because of its excellent reputation and purpose to deliver applied research that makes a positive societal impact.
“The collaborative and practical studying atmosphere at Elm House has impressed me. The campus libraries have countless printed books and excellent study rooms.
“The continuous and widely available range of support provided to students makes the University of Brighton a superb choice for me to achieve my academic goals.”
Mevazara also told us what her favourite parts of Brighton life are: “As an international student from a tropical island the vibrant life of Brighton, combined with seaside activities, has provided me with a good life balance.
“Brighton offers a lot of discovery and opportunities to mingle with people from different cultural and educational backgrounds from all over the world.”
What’s next for Mevazara?
As her postgraduate degree comes to an end, we’re keen to hear about what’s next for Mevazara after graduation.
“Benefiting from the reputation of a UK degree will definitely boost my career. I have always planned to obtain a higher education degree, not just for my career but for my own fulfilment.
“After my MBA studies, I will continue working in the WASH sector and apply my newly attained knowledge to contribute to further availability of WASH facilities within my home country.
“My first goal is to optimise and foster the existing market and enlighten the advocacy work for safely managed WASH services for all.”
